"Racist Hunger Games Fans Are Very DisappointedBY DODAI STEWART

I have known of myself that I don't get out much, maybe I can be considered a recluse.  I only venture out of my home to go to work or to pick up various necessities; gas, library books, groceries.  I'm not this way out of fear.  I think I'm this way because it is easy. I'm quite comfortable at home.

The internet allowed me to venture out and experience the world, the world outside of my country in the comfort of my home.  As long as my sources for information were 'mainstream media', my country's government was trying to create a peaceful planet and the citizens were crazy to get each other's attention.  As the World Wide Web grew and I did not have a job to go to, I discovered alternative news sources. And from those alternative sources I discovered some ugly realities happening within and by my country.

In the past week, I am told of an incident within my community, of a pregnant woman of color verbally attacked with racial slurs by a caucasian stranger.  I am surprised that it happened where I live and in this century.  Then came the national story of a young black boy murdered for doing what anyone should rightfully and without fear be able to do; walk home.

Today, the overwhelming amount of  statements and stories of hatred of black people in just the past week came to head with the reaction to the movie Hunger Games.  A movie goer says the movie was ruined by the black actors even though the characters being portrayed are described in the book with "dark skin".

It has only been a few years before I moved back to where I live now that I have let my guard down with people who hate the color of my skin but the universe has tapped me on the shoulder to say, "your skin color is a problem for some people".
